Dirk Nowitzki took the occasion of a radio appearance earlier this week to look ahead at a future that may include a talent infusion and a smaller paycheck. "I got one year left on this deal and then I'm coming off the books. So if that helps for us to be better I'm going to take a paycut. That's part of the pitch. Cuban and Donnie have got to be part of the pitch. I think Dallas and the fans here, the sellout streak, the city to live in is gorgeous and has gotta be in the top five in the league. Hopefully, some of those guys will decide to come, and if not, we've gotta have a plan B. If none of those top free agents come, we gotta make some moves with sign and trades or something." What a difference a year makes for David Price, who by this time last year was 6-2. The potty-mouthed, Price-baiting umpire was one thing. The allergies (allergies?), rash and blurred vision are another. But [Price's] nightmare Cy Young follow-up has a new twist: a pitch, a grimace, then Price strolling from the mound Wednesday in the third inning of a game he was already losing to the Red Sox, 2-0, and the Rays would drop, like a rock, 9-2. Just when you thought it couldn't get worse ... This time, it was left triceps tightness. That's in the arm. The left-hander didn't bother trying to throw a practice pitch. He knew. Chiefs' Bowe predicts monster season
This week has a way of lending itself to optimism in the NFL, something that caught hold of wide receiver Dwayne Bowe. [Bowe] on Wednesday laid some heavy expectations on himself and his offensive teammates -- running back Jamaal Charles in particular. Bowe predicted that he would lead the NFL next season in receptions and touchdowns and Charles would lead in rushing yardage. ... "I'm going to tire a lot of cornerbacks out because we're going hurry-up offense every day, practicing full speed, fast, hurry-up offense, and that's something that's going to catch the defense off guard, and that's going to open up a lot of big plays down the field for the receivers and for the running game.
