The Alexander Guerrero sweepstakes may very well have taken the Dodgers out of the Robinson Cano sweepstakes, but that doesn't mean he's out of options -- clearly. Cano, the top free agent on the market, could possibly draw interest to varying degrees from about 10 outside teams, including the Rangers, Tigers, Cubs, Mariners, Blue Jays, Orioles, White Sox, Nationals, Angels and Giants, in addition to the Yankees. Now, obviously, some of these teams seem less likely than others. But that's a pretty fair list of teams that have the resources and could potentially make the room. In the case of many of these teams, there's a reason or two Cano may not be a perfect fit (mostly, it's the money). But with a player of this stature, teams have been known to make room. Golden: 'Don't take the cheese'
There is news, and there is noise -- and Al Golden can control only so much of the former. Before the news broke concerning the announcement of the impending NCAA sanctions, [Golden's] Miami Hurricanes began preparing for their next game against Wake Forest by trying to block out the outside noise of being ranked seventh in the BCS as well as the mega-matchup with BCS No. 2 Florida State a week from Saturday. "I wouldn't say [there has been] slippage, but it's a challenge," Golden said of blocking out the distractions. "There is cheese all around them. Don't take the cheese. Don't take the trap. You have a guy here or there that all of a sudden they're seduced by it. They want to hear about it. They want to talk about it. It has nothing to do with the outcome." (Miami Herald)Comment
Ex-NFL coach: McKinnie 'stinks'
Finally, a team looking for an offensive lineman found a team looking to move one -- but what did the Dolphins get in Bryant McKinnie? "He is a proven and experienced player who will be a great addition to the offensive line," general manager Jeff Ireland said in a statement. "Bryant McKinnie was a good player at one time but he stinks now," a former NFL coach told me today. ... Is he a Joe Philbin-type player? Absolutely not. But the Dolphins are desperate. McKinnie can move in as the left tackle -- the position he's played all his professional life -- and they can move Jonathan Martin to right tackle, which is the position he played last year. McKinnie, not exactly a try-hard guy so far this year, has nonetheless given up only one sack in 2013. So that is indeed an upgrade. (Miami Herald)Comment
