Spurred by Jake Locker's season-ending injury, the Tennessee Titans will have to make a decision on their quarterback's future before the draft rolls around. It's quite the conundrum: Locker has a checkered injury history, and there will be an abundance of premium quarterback prospects available at Tennessee's draft slot. A team source tells NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport that the Titans believed they finally had found their franchise quarterback after Locker's impressive half versus the Jets in Week 4, only to watch him go down with serious hip, knee and foot injuries. Realizing they no longer can count on Locker to start all 16 games in a season, the Titans now are "undecided about how to proceed" with their injured starter, per Rapoport. (NFL.com)Comment
Injury scare for Clemson's Boyd
Congratulations -- and perhaps a Get Well Soon card -- are in order for Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd. [Boyd] was injured on the final play of the third quarter and headed to the locker room in the eighth-ranked Tigers' game with Georgia Tech on Thursday night. After scrambling for 7 yards as the quarter wound down, Boyd remained on the turf after falling hard on his left shoulder. Boyd got up on his own power and trotted to the sideline. Moments later, though, he walked to the locker room at Death Valley. Boyd eventually returned to the sidelines. ... But the Tigers, who were up 24 at the time, did not put him back in the game. Cole Stoudt replaced him at quarterback. Boyd told ESPN's Joe Schad that he has a bruised sternum and collarbone, but not a broken bone. "I'll be fine," the senior quarterback said. (ESPN.com)Comment
At some point, the Dodgers will curb their spending -- but when? The answer increasingly appears to be now. They aren't interested in second baseman Robinson Cano, the best free agent available. They've signed 26-year-old Cuban Alexander Guerrero, figuring he'll replace this year's second baseman, Mark Ellis, a 36-year-old free agent. ... [Stan Kasten] gave no reason to expect a replay of last offseason, when the Dodgers' version of quantitative easing was to continue a spending spree on Zack Greinke and Hyun-Jin Ryu to bulk up the starting rotation and help pull the club out of its recession. "I think, for us, it wouldn't surprise me if we went [through] the winter without a huge move; not that it couldn't happen," said Kasten, who had a record-breaking payroll of $230 million in 2013.
