Jackson-to-Washington done?

Is Washington's possible addition of DeSean Jackson already a foregone conclusion? According to two reports from radio stations, it is. Some NFL insiders are saying not so fast. Chris Russell of ESPN 980 in Washington and Tim McManus of 97.5 The Fanatic on Philadelphia reported overnight that a contract between the free agent wide receiver is either a done deal or very close to it. But Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network and Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports both said that while Jacksons visit with the Redskins has gone well, there is no agreement yet. Jackson arrived at Dulles airport [Monday] afternoon and was reported headed to have dinner with Jay Gruden and otherRedskins coaches. It has been reported that there has been strong mutual interest between the former Eagle and Washington. (CSN Washington)Comment

Girardi: Yankees need 95 wins

What does a few hundred million in the offseason buy these days in Major League Baseball? Naturally, Joe Girardi likes the cards he has been dealt as the manager attempts to avoid a second straight dark October in The Bronx. Yet, Girardi isn't playing the Pollyanna role when it comes to viewing what awaits his remade team starting Tuesday night in Minute Maid Park against the Astros in the first game of the season. "I like our club. Now, saying that we haven't played a game yet," Girardi said before a workout Monday. "We have to perform on a very high level. We know it's a very competitive division. You might even argue it's a stronger division than last year. You are going to have to play well every night to get around 95 wins to get a spot in the playoffs." That's 10 games better than a year ago. (New York Post)Comment

Cavs setting up for major trade

Hello, Cleveland? [The Cavaliers] are trying to put themselves in position to make a major trade around June's NBA draft, sources told ESPN.com. To help facilitate it, the team made an unorthodox but strategic move Monday by signing point guard Scotty Hopson to a two-year, $3.8 million contract. Hopson has never played in an NBA game but will get a check for $1.35 million just for the Cavs' final seven games of the regular season, sources said. The Cavs are interested in Hopson, a 6-foot-7 University of Tennessee product who went undrafted in 2011, as a prospect after he played well in Turkey this season. But this move is also aimed at expanding the team's options in June and July. Team owner Dan Gilbert approved the last-minute spending in an effort to set his team up to be hunters over the summer.
