The Milwaukee Bucks are set to bolster their frontcourt with the addition of veteran forward Danilo Gallinari. The development was announced by the Italian forward’s agent, Michael Tellem, who explained that his client chose the Bucks over several contending teams because of the chance to play a role in the team’s rotation this season.

Veteran presence

Gallinari spent most of the season playing for the Washington Wizards before getting traded to the Detroit Pistons, who immediately waived him. The 35-year-old had his fair share of suitors, which included contending squads like the Los Angeles Clippers and the Phoenix Suns.

However, Gallinari chose to join the Bucks and play under coach Doc Rivers, who he played for during his time with the Clippers. It was under Rivers’ tutelage that Danilo had his best season in the NBA, averaging 19.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.

Adds shooting and size

Although Doc couldn’t officially comment on the addition of Gallinari until it is finalized, he mentioned how crucial it is to have someone with size, shooting, and experience on a championship team. He also praised Gallinari’s versatility and ability to play multiple positions on the court.

“Shooting and size, it matters. And veteran leadership. A guy that knows how to play the game. Great passer. Someone like that [could help the team],” Rivers said.

A 6-foot-10 forward, the Italian is no longer the scoring threat he once was. However, with the gravity of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard's command on the court, having a reliable shooter like Gallinari can open up the floor for his teammates.
