Many eyebrows were raised when a promising point guard opted to return to the Chicago Bulls despite the presence of numerous guards on the roster. Now essentially the fifth point guard on the lineup, the Illinois product is eager to prove his worthiness of a spot on the rotation and make his mark on the floor.

Bulls executive Arturas Karnisovas has declared that the point guard battle will be won during training camp, and Dosunmu is ready for the challenge.

Unfinished business

Experts expected Dosunmu to move to another team, especially after the Bulls re-signed Coby White and snagged free agent Jevon Carter. However, the 38th pick of the 2022 NBA Draft surprised many when he re-signed with the Bulls, citing “unfinished business” as his reason.

“Of course, just playing with the team for two years and building up that camaraderie and knowing we had a lot of unfinished business, that was a big reason,” Dosunmu said in a talk with K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago.

Up to the challenge

Dosunmu expressed his willingness to mix it up with his teammates during training camp. He said he looks forward to competing for the starting point guard position and that he’s confident in his abilities to do so.

“I’m a competitor. I’m going to try my best. Ultimately, I think that competition is going to help our team in the long run. We go at each other and try to kill each other in practice. When we’re on the court together, it’s going to make our team much more smooth. Me going into my third year and our core group being together pretty much the same time, it’s getting time for us to turn the corner,” Dosunmu shared.
