The Cleveland Cavaliers have made their selection in the 2023 NBA Draft. They decided to take Emoni Bates out of Eastern Michigan University at pick 49 overall in the second round.

Bates was a highly-ranked prospect coming out of high school when he committed to the University of Memphis. However, he struggled in his freshman year and transferred for his sophomore season.

In his second collegiate year at Eastern Michigan, Bates averaged 19.2 points, and 5.8 rebounds, while shooting 40 percent from the floor. The three-point shooting will definitely need some work as He only shot 33 percent from behind the arc on 7.4 attempts a game.

Drafting Bates checks off one of the Cavs' biggest needs this offseason. The team is desperate to add more depth at small forward and having Bates on the roster fills that need.

It was no secret that Cleveland was interested in drafting the six-foot-nine forward. They worked him out ahead of the draft and the fit made too much sense to pass up.

Bates could be a nice piece for a Cavs team that will have Finals aspirations next season. However, it's likely the team will still make other moves to add more depth to their roster.
