Kawhi Leonard's Injury Status for LA Clippers vs. Denver Nuggets

LA Clippers star Kawhi Leonard is dealing with knee soreness

LA Clippers star Kawhi Leonard was unexpectedly downgraded to out vs. the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night with right knee soreness, and is now being ruled out a day in advance for Thursday night's game against the Denver Nuggets. Speaking with reporters in Sacramento, Clippers head coach Ty Lue was asked if Leonard would play vs. Denver, and said via ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk, "We hope so. We're not sure right now, but that is what we are leaning towards."

Leonard has since been ruled out vs. the Nuggets, and his status beyond that game remains unclear. Lue said the knee soreness for Leonard crept up vs. the Charlotte Hornets, and was something the team found out about following the game, but they did not know until the next day that he would be unable to play vs. Sacramento. Lue also told reporters that Leonard left the team to return to Los Angeles where he would have more resources and treatment options.

Leonard suffered an ACL tear in his right knee in 2021, and a meniscus tear in that same knee last postseason. Because of this, the Clippers will always be cautious whenever Leonard is dealing with any discomfort in his right knee; however, there is no way to know the severity of this injury right now, as the team has not announced anything other than "knee soreness" for the star forward.

This game against Denver is the front end of a back-to-back for the Clippers, as they will face the Utah Jazz on Friday in LA.
