The Dallas Mavericks were up 2-0 on the LA Clippers in the opening round of the 2021 playoffs, but ended up losing the series in seven games. During a recent appearance on JJ Redick's Old Man and the Three podcast, former Mavericks star Kristaps Porzingis made a shocking admission about his lack of engagement at times during that series.

"Reflecting back on it, I should have just said, 'This is what you want? I will do that to the best of my ability.' But at that point still I was a little bit young, and I was like doing it out of spite. Like, 'Oh, on purpose I will not move from this corner.' That little bit of mindset. And it was not correct. Of course I played hard and I gave everything on defense, but a little bit of that was creeping up on me."

Porzingis took accountability, saying he could have done a better job that series, but did admit that he was not always entirely engaged on the offensive end because of how he was being used. Averaging just 13.1 PPG that series, Porzingis was not much of a threat on offense, which really hindered what Dallas was able to do once their shooters cooled off. While this was partially due to how he was used, Porzingis admits he could have done a better job buying into his role.
