2023 NBA Draft: Cam Whitmore’s Stock Reportedly Soaring as Draft Nears

Just a few weeks out from the 2023 NBA Draft, Cam Whitmore is seeing his stock rise.

We’re now just over two weeks away from the 2023 NBA Draft, and outside of French phenom Victor Wembanyama going No. 1 overall, not much is clear.

But one prospect who has undoubtedly helped his stock in recent weeks is Villanova wing Cam Whitmore. The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie recently said on the most recent episode of his Game Theory podcast that Whitmore “has been the guy that I think has probably moved himself from the six-to-ten range into the top-five range."

Despite a here-and-there season with the Wildcats, Whitmore has obviously impressed following the season. He averaged 12.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game at Villanova, shooting 48 percent overall and 34 percent from beyond the arc. But possesses clear athletic ability that most prospects can only dream of.

Whitmore was especially impressive in his Pacers media availability, citing both issues that he needs to work on, down to the percentage, as well as specifics of how he could fit in Indiana’s system.

If Whitmore has boosted his stock to the top-five, both the Houston Rockets at fourth overall and Detroit Pistons make sense, to some degree.

If the Rockets are planning on the return of James Harden in free agency, Whitmore makes sense as a wing piece to slot next to the rest of the core. Even without Harden returning, Whitmore's selection as a hyper-athletic swing pick alongside Jalen Green, Jabari Smith Jr. and more, could reap rewards.

With Detroit, Whitmore’s weakest link — his passing, playmaking and facilitating — would be covered well with the dual lead-guard threats in Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey.

Regardless, Whitmore’s destination on draft night 2023 is sure to send ripples throughout.
