On Tuesday evening, NBA franchises encountered a momentous occasion with the potential to significantly impact their future. The top 14 picks of the upcoming 2023 NBA Draft, scheduled for June 22, were solidified at the draft lottery.

During an exciting event, the NBA unveiled the fortunate recipient of the coveted No. 1 overall pick and Victor Wembanyama, along with the remaining lottery positions.

The Oklahoma City Thunder had the third worst odds entering the night, and ultimately landed the No. 12 overall pick. This means that their pick was projected to have the highest odds of landing here and it did. For Oklahoma City, Chet Holmgren is set to join the upcoming rookie class after missing all of last season, so this pick feels like icing on the cake. The Thunder are known for finding value late in the lottery, so this selection could still be highly impactful. Just last season, OKC took Jalen Williams with the No. 12 overall pick, who finished second in Rookie of the Year voting.

It wasn't a huge night for the Thunder as the pick stayed in exactly the same spot it was projected to, but at least it didn't fall. There was a chance it could have slid one or two spots.

Between now and the 2023 NBA Draft, the Draft Digest team will be breaking down prospects that could be available in the Thunder's range.
