2023 NBA Summer League: Top Rookie Performers From July 9 Games

When looking back at the slate of games on July 9, these four rookies shined brightest in NBA Summer League.

In Sunday’s slate of eight games, more incoming rookies continued to show promise. Both on the offensive and defensive sides of the floor, this class boasts players that could be instantly impactful in their first NBA season.

Which four rookies were the top performers in yesterday’s slate of games?

Ausar Thompson (Detroit Pistons)

Ausar Thompson, Overtime Elite

8 Rebounds | 6 Assists | 5 Stocks

Not only did Thompson have an extremely well-rounded offensive game, but he was highly disruptive on defense as well. The game appears to come easy to him, as the explosive wing processes it quickly. In what should be a perfect fit in Detroit, Thompson can play off of the Pistons' pair of dynamic guards.

Colin Castleton (Los Angeles Lakers)

Colin Castleton, Florida Gators

21 Points | 14 Rebounds | 3 Assists

The undrafted big has consistently been one of the best players in summer league for the past week. As a productive scorer and rebounder, Castleton is a walking double-double and one of the best players on the Lakers' summer roster. After earning a contract several days ago, he continues to produce at a very high level.

Jalen Wilson (Brooklyn Nets)

Jalen Wilson, Kansas Jayhawks

18 Points | 8 Rebounds | 2 Steals

Although he hasn't been talked about much relative to other rookies in this upcoming class, Wilson has the tools to be a contributor from day one at the NBA level. He scored 18 points on Sunday and notched two steals on the defensive end. As the rest of summer league goes on, keep an eye on him as someone who could continue to step up for Brooklyn.

Victor Wembanyama (San Antonio Spurs)

Victor Wembanyama, San Antonio Spurs

27 Points | 12 Rebounds | 3 Blocks

After his slow start to summer league, Wembanyama bounced back on Sunday with a solid performance. He looked much more aggressive, creating for himself and ensured that he got to his spots. The future is bright in San Antonio, with Wembanyama taking over as the future of the franchise.
