2024 NBA Draft: Ron Holland has Case to Be No. 1 Pick Prior to Season with Ignite

After a highly-touted 2023 NBA Draft class featuring the likes of Victor Wembanyama, Scoot Henderson, Brandon Miller, the Thompson twins and more, the 2024 NBA Draft has some leg work to do.
While they understandably won’t have a prospect of Wembanyama’s level, as he was unprecedented at 7-foot-4 with advanced handle and perimeter ability, there are plenty of names that standout as potential No. 1 picks: Matas Buzelis, Justin Edwards, Isaiah Collier, Zaccharie Risacher and more.
One that stands out slightly above the already-elite crowd, however, is Ron Holland, who is set to play for the G League Ignite this upcoming season.
At 6-foot-8, 200 pounds, Holland has the size and athletic profile to make a fine top pick. He’s a modern forward, with a solid combination of speed, fluidity, basketball IQ and feel for the game.
He moves extremely well for 6-foot-8, employing quick-twitch movement that, when coupled with a strong handle for his skill-level, lets him slice and dice his way to the ring against competition. Once there, he can employ his athleticism.
He’s also a threat to score from deep, and has a fine and projectable jumper, making him a perfect fit for NBA teams hovering near the top of the 2024 NBA Draft.
Right now, Draft Digest, ESPN and Bleacher Report all have Holland ranked No. 1 on big boards or being the first selected in mock drafts.
There are, of course, several areas of improvement needed over the next 11-ish months in order for Holland to become the top pick. A more refined driving game via coordination and change of pace, adding in more of his left-hand to dribble moves and putting to rest general defensive concerns will go a long ways.
Regardless, Holland should be must-watch basketball with the Ignite this year.
