Ignite Update: Looking Back on 2022-23 Season

Since the inception of the Ignite program, the G League has become a more popular route for some of the top young talent in the world.

While it wasn't a great season in terms of wins, the young Ignite team clearly has at least five prospects worthy of consideration in the 2023 NBA Draft. It's a tough transition to the G League regardless of where these prospects come from, so it's a great way to evaluate talent.

As it relates to the 2023 NBA Draft, how did the top Ignite prospects look this season?

Scoot Henderson

17.6 PPG | 6.3 APG | 5.2 RPG | 32.4% 3PT

Henderson missed quite a bit of time this season due to injury, but looked spectacular when he did take the court. The one concern with the star guard is the perimeter shooting, which looked good early but fell off as the season went on.

While he was the clear second-best prospect in this class entering the season, some around the league would argue the gap has closed between him and guys like Brandon Miller and Amen Thompson. Regardless, he's still got the upside to be a generational guard prospect.

The athleticism is off the charts for Henderson and his lack of size is overcome by a great wingspan and strong frame. There's no question he'll be a top pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, which is why his season was shut down early as the Ignite were out of the playoff race and he had individually shown enough.

Leonard Miller

16.9 PPG | 10.1RPG | 1.1 SPG | 30.8% 3PT

Although he plays with an unorthodox style, Miller is wildly productive. He had the opportunity to be a potential first rounder last summer, but opted to spend a season in the G League this season. This was a great move, as he's shown growth playing against professional talent.

The 3-point shot isn't where it needs to be for Miller to become the 3-and-D combo forward that he has the upside to become, but it has improved. He plays with a high motor defensively and makes things happen on that end which was evident all season long.

On the glass, Miller was dominant in his sole G League season and should impact the game that way immediately at the NBA level. Assuming he has a good pre-draft process, he should be a first-round selection in June.

Sidy Cissoko

11.8PPG | 3.1 APG | 1.1 SPG | 33.1% 3PT

Known for being a defensive prospect, Cissoko really struggled on the offensive end early in the season as a scorer. He's always been a good positional passer, but the self-creation and scoring just weren't there.

That changed as the season went on, especially late. Down the stretch of the season, Cissoko was one of the quickest risers on draft boards with his explosion of points in several key matchups. While he wasn't a primary scorer holistically on the season, we've now at least seen flashes of the upside.

One of the most impressive things about Cissoko this season was the 3-point shooting, as he ended up being the most efficient of any Ignite prospect that will be entering the draft this summer. He will have a real chance at being selected in the first round.

Mojave King

9.0 PPG | 3.8 RPG | 1.4 APG | 32.9% 3PT

He's more of a second-round talent, but King could provide valuable floor spacing at the next level. The 3-point shooting efficiency doesn't tell the whole story for the sharpshooter, who had an inconsistent shooting season.

The upside as a shooter is certainly there, especially for someone who just played an entire season with the extended NBA shooting distance. The combine and pre-draft workouts could be huge for King to prove he's better than his percentages would suggest.

Efe Abogidi

8.3 PPG | 5.5 RPG | 1.0 BPG | 57.0% FG

Abogidi is an older prospect relative to some of these others, but could shape up to be a fantastic role player off the bench. He's productive on both ends and makes winning plays.

He's got experience at both the college and G League level already and was solid in both situations. Abogidi may end up being undrafted, but would be a fantastic signing for any team. He didn't get as much praise as some of his teammates throughout the season, but the forward quietly had a really underrated campaign.
