NBA Draft: Five-Star Ron Holland to Sign with G League Ignite

In this story:
Ron Holland, a five-star small forward and one of the most talented players in the 2023 high school class, plans to sign with the G League Ignite to continue his basketball career.
In April, Holland requested a release from his National Letter of Intent with Texas. He originally chose the Longhorns over Arkansas, UCLA, Kansas, Houston, Kentucky and others, but has now opted out following the dismissal of head coach Chris Beard.
Holland initially remained committed to Texas and new coach Rodney Terry, who helped the program to the Elite Eight in March, but has since opted to bypass the collegiate route.
With the Ignite, Holland will be able to sign a contract and focus solely on basketball in hopes of raising his stock for the 2024 NBA Draft. At 6-foot-8 with lauded intangibles and plenty of skill, Holland should be one of the more sought-after prospects just over a year from now.
He now joins fellow five-star Matas Buzelis, who on Wednesday put pen to paper on signing with the Ignite himself. At 6-foot-10 with premier shooting ability, Buzelis is projected to be the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft via several experts.
Holland and Buzelis will join the numerous prospects that have opted to go the G League route, including 2021 draftees Jalen Green and Jonathan Kuminga, the No. 8 pick in 2022 Dyson Daniels, and upcoming 2023 draftees Scoot Henderson, Leonard Miller and Sidy Cissoko.
