Prospect Profile

Somewhat of a journeyman at the college level, Davis spent his freshman year at TCU, then three years at SMU before going to Memphis last season. The undersized fifth year guard was a dynamic offensive threat with the Tigers, making huge plays in the biggest moments.

He can score in a variety of ways from all three levels, whether he creates for himself or is set up by teammates. Furthermore, he’s a solid playmaker for others and overall is a catalyst on the offensive end. He’s lightning quick and has a crafty handle that allows him to create space. Especially in pick-and-roll situations, he’s deadly. Davis has shown that he has great touch near the rim and deep range from beyond the arc. No matter where he is at on the court, defenses must play him honestly.

On the flip side, his lack of size could be an issue defensively at the next level. He’ll almost always be guarding players that are several inches taller and much stronger. If Davis can add some weight and strength and learn to be an elite team defender with smart rotations within a scheme, he could overcome this.

Regardless, as a future backup point guard that fills the right role, he could find a spot in the NBA. He’s an underrated rebounder and passer and is much more than a scorer, but will need to be put in the right scenario to showcase those skills.

Davis had a stellar showing at G League Elite Camp in May which resulted in an invite to the official combine. Despite being undersized, he still is an elite scorer that can make an impact on that end at the next level someday. The pre-draft process has been promising for him, but there's a good chance he doesn't get selected in the 2023 NBA Draft. As an undrafted free agent, he should have plenty of suitors if that's the case and will likely be one of the most electric players at NBA Summer League.
