Former NBA Star Slams Boston Celtics

Former Memphis Grizzlies guard Gilbert Arenas slammed the Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics are one of the most historic franchises in sports, but they have been chasing another championship since their last one in 2008. During a recent episode of Gil's Arena, former NBA star and Memphis Grizzlies guard Gilbert Arenas slammed the franchise for their lack of recent success.

“Laker fans just caught up to a group whose whole legacy of championships was built with eight teams,” Arenas said. “I’m just being honest, and me being petty, I’m pretty sure - first of all, 95 percent of the championships were created before Paul Pierce was even born, that’s one. Two, I don’t know if anybody is even alive to remember when they won championships back in those 50’s days.”

Arenas added, "In the last 30 years, Boston has been irrelevant in basketball history. Your history was built at the beginning of time, because you guys had all the great players because you guys were prominent. In the last 30 years of basketball, where has Boston been? You’ve got one chip in the last 30 years.”

Continuing his message, Arenas went as far to say that the Toronto Raptors have more bragging rights than the Celtics do in the last 30 years.

"The only people that remember you is Boston fans now," Arenas said. "Most of the people who watched Boston’s original dynasty ain’t even alive… Toronto got more bragging rights than you right now in the past 30 years, see you both got one."

This was quite the statement from Arenas, who had a lot to say about the Celtics and their recent history.
