LeBron James Takes Jab at Memphis Grizzlies Legend
LeBron James threw an unexpected shot.
LeBron James has done it all in his NBA career. He's a four-time NBA Champion, four-time Finals MVP, four-time NBA MVP, and a list of endless other accolades. However, there's one particular award that James has never won and one that stings.
During an episode of 'The Shop,' LeBron James opened up about never winning Defensive Player of the Year and gave a subtle jab to Grizzlies fan-favorite Marc Gasol in the process.
"Defensive Player of the Year," James said. "I mean, that's the only award that I don't have in my house. It kind of stings. I've talked about this before. Like, it don't make sense. It's almost like what Jay [Z] just said about [Beyonce]. How could she have the most GRAMMYs? But never won Album of the Year. So, the year I finished second in Defensive Player of the Year award, the guy who won Defensive Player of the Year didn't even make first team on defense."
Marc Gasol and LeBron James were once teammates on the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2021 NBA season so there likely isn't much beef between the two players. However, it's pretty clear that LeBron feels some type of way about losing the award to Gasol. While Gasol wasn't the best individual defender in the NBA in 2013, he was arguably the best defensive anchor on a top-tier defensive team. For that reason, he was likely voted Defense Player of the Year.
