NBA Champion Reacts to Getting Jersey Retired

One of the greatest moments an NBA player can have.

There are three moments in the life of an NBA player that represent the apex of their careers: winning a championship, joining the Hall of Fame, and having a jersey retired. For Marc Gasol, he finally got the chance to experience one of those this week.

While Gasol won an NBA Championship as a member of the Toronto Raptors, he spent the majority of his career with the Memphis Grizzlies. They were the franchise that molded him into the championship player he became.

"I had a very unique perspective because I came as a 16-year-old,” Marc Gasol said. “I had the perspective of a fan, of what is expected from the team in Memphis, and then followed the team in Spain. When I came back as a Grizzlies player, I carried that with me, and I carried that kind of pride. And I hope everyone enjoyed what they saw for so many years."

The relationships that Marc Gasol created with members of the Grizzlies like Mike Conley, Zach Randolph, and Tony Allen are ones that lasted beyond the game of basketball. So much so, that the four retire

"When I was able to accomplish the biggest goal as a basketball player and win an NBA ring, these three guys that meant so much to me along the way were right there with me."

Marc Gasol finished his career as an NBA Champion, 3x NBA All-Star, 1x All-NBA First Team, and NBA Defensive Player of the Year. His career is one that any NBA player should dream of having, and his jersey retirement is well deserved.
