The Memphis Grizzlies lost impactful big man Brandon Clarke to an achilles tear last season, but new footage shows that Clarke has already gotten back to explosive workouts in preparation for a return:

Clarke's injury came at a difficult time for the Grizzlies, because they were also without starting center Steven Adams. This left Memphis without much front court depth in their first round playoff series vs. Anthony Davis and the Los Angeles Lakers.

While Memphis has the Defensive Player of the Year in Jaren Jackson Jr., they like to start him next to another big, which allows his defensive versatility to be optimized. With both Clarke and Adams injured, Memphis was limited in their lineup choices, which is something they hope can regain some structure next season.

While it's unclear exactly when Clarke will be ready for a return to the court, it's great to see him doing explosive workouts like this. The Grizzlies will of course open next season without Ja Morant as well, but they certainly hope to have their full squad in place entering the postseason, which was not the case last year.

Clarke is a very underrated piece for Memphis, as his athleticism and versatility impacts the game on both ends. An achilles tear is always one of the most lengthy injuries to recover from, but Clarke is putting in the work to eventually make his return.
