Longtime NBA Writer Says Miami Heat Had Most Improbable Run To Conference Finals

The Miami Heat may have edged for the Los Angeles Lakers for most surprising run in NBA playoffs

So which team had the best run to the conference finals?

The Boston Celtics and Denver Nuggets are out because they were expected to make it. That leaves the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers, two play-in teams that are now four wins from the NBA Finals.

The answer is the Heat if you ask NBA writer Sam Amick of The Athletic. He gave his reason during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show.

"What strikes me about the Heat, you hear all the time about Heat Culture and sometimes people roll their eyes at it because it's tired and talked about so often," Amick said. "They're showing again how real it is. To win the type of series and the games that they've had with Tyler Herro out, losing guys left and right, this is a Heat team that underwhelmed all season long."

While Jimmy Butler is playing phenomenal and Bam Adebayo improved late in the first round and conference semifinals, Amick thinks it's more than about talent for the Heat.

"I don't think they're going to win the `chip, but to get to the conference finals is remarkable," Amick said. "And it's all born out of the way they compete, the way they train, the way they run their whole operation."
