In the Miami Heat’s franchise history, they remain among the most competitive teams after reaching the NBA Finals twice in the past four seasons.

ESPN recently released their NBA Future Power Rankings for the next three seasons, ranking the Heat at No. 7. This projection is a combination of players, management, money, market, and draft.

Here's what ESPN’s Bobby Marks release to explain Miami’s ranking:

“The Heat rank No. 7 for a second straight season, largely in part to a management group led by president Pat Riley and coach Erik Spoelstra. Miami also ranks No. 3 in market, up three spots from last year," Marks wrote. "If there is a concern, it comes with a roster that falls one spot to No. 12. The Heat’s two foundational players, Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, are under contract for the next three seasons. However, current and future financial restrictions will force the Heat to continually focus on player development, finding bargains in free agency, and identifying undrafted players.”

Miami placed No. 1 in the league in management, which should come as no surprise. Pat Riley, Andy Elisburg, and Erik Spoelstra make up the most balanced front office in the NBA.

As Marks said, the Heat need to focus on their methods of success in the past. Developing and scouting under-the-radar players such as Gabe Vincent, Max Strus, and most recently Cole Swider is a key part of their accomplishments.
