Former Kings C Receives New Heart in Miracle Story

Scot Pollard, a member of Sacramento's 2002 WCF team, received the gift of life for his 49th birthday.

After playing five seasons with Sacramento Kings and 11 total in the NBA, former C Scot Pollard found himself in need of a heart transplant. The veteran big man had his wish fulfilled last Friday night, getting a new heart only four days after turning 49.

Dawn Pollard posted about her husband's transplant on X Friday night.

Pollard, who was a 6-foot-11 star at Kansas University, played for five different teams in the league but had his longest stint in Sacramento. In his time with the Kings, Pollard averaged 6 points and 6 rebounds, playing an efficient role off the bench for Rick Adelman's squad.

After running up-and-down the court for over a decade, the former Jayhawk ensued the search for a new heart after contracting a virus in 2021 that may have triggered a genetic condition according to the Associated Press. The condition made his heart beat 10,000 extra times per day, and took his father's life when he was just 54. The search wasn't a simple one, with the surgery requiring a heart big enough to fit a borderline seven-footer.

Thankfully, a donor was found. Now, Pollard's recovery process has started off better than imagined. Just one day after the transplant, the big man had already began walking again in videos posted by his wife.

Pollard continues to take steps forward in his recovery process, and should recover to full health if all goes to plan.
