Kings Barely Crack Top Half of Newest NBA Power Rankings

The Kings currently sit at 7th place in the Western Conference with 20 games remaining.

Coming off back-to-back wins, the Sacramento Kings have made a name for themselves heading into the final stretch of the NBA season. Currently sitting a game out of 5th place, the Kings have an opportunity to escape the play-in tournament set to take place in April.

With the regular season dwindling down, the final league standings are beginning to take shape. For Sacramento, it's do-or-die time as they look to finish another season .500 or better, something the organization isn't very used to. There's been a shift within the team since the hiring of HC Mike Brown, as he's led a big cultural change that emphasizes hard work and winning.

Outside of just conference rankings, Bleacher Report's newest NBA power rankings find the Sacramento Kings placed at 14th. Currently at 10 games above .500, it's difficult whether to say they should be higher or lower. While there's plenty of star talent with players like De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, there's also a worrying inconsistency.

To defend his reasoning, BR's Andy Bailey says:

On the road and against a Lakers squad that's seemingly locked in for a play-in push, Fox dropped 44 points on 19-of-32 shooting. He was a frequent visitor in the paint, where he made 16 of his buckets. In a season that's been largely defined by inconsistency, Sacramento has still had plenty of moments like these. When some combination of Fox, Domantas Sabonis and Malik Monk are all on, the Kings can look like an offensive juggernaut.

While respecting the explosiveness of the Kings' offense, Bailey understands there's no reason to be 100% sold on this team yet. Playoff time will be the deciding factor of determining this team's grit and confidence. Consistency is key, and there's plenty of time to build hope heading into the final five weeks.

The Kings could have a chance to make it three straight wins if they come out on top against the Houston Rockets on Sunday night.
