Nikola Jokic Gets Honest About Rematch With Lakers
The Denver Nuggets respect the Lakers
Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic addressed the media on Wednesday, and was asked several questions about this upcoming series against the Los Angeles Lakers. Denver has been a nightmare matchup for the Lakers the last two seasons, including in last year’s Western Conference Finals that the Nuggets won in four games.
While Denver was able to make quick work of the Lakers in that series, all of those games were close, which Jokic mentioned on Wednesday. Jokic also added one unexpected statement, saying, "It's probably the toughest series we had."
Jokic clearly has a lot of respect for the Lakers, understanding what they are capable of despite Denver's consistent dominance over them. It seems the Nuggets understand that this will not be an easy series. Previous success over a team does not ensure a series victory, and while Denver certainly has confidence in their ability to repeat as champions, they do not want to overlook any opponent on their path to doing so. This includes the Lakers, which Jokic made clear on Wednesday.
For the Lakers, they also have to be extremely motivated in this series. Understanding the challenge in front of them, the Lakers will be locked in from the beginning of Game 1, and Denver will have to match their intensity.
This should be an exciting series between two very talented Western Conference opponents.
