Report: Utah Jazz contacted Indiana Pacers about NBA Draft trade
The NBA Draft is tomorrow, and the chatter around league moves is heating up. The Indiana Pacers and Denver Nuggets agreed to a deal on Wednesday, and Kristaps Porzingis as well as Malcolm Brogdon are possibly on the move.
Another team that is rumored to be interested in making a deal inside the top-10 is the Utah Jazz. Jake Fischer from Yahoo Sports reported that the Jazz are interested in potentially moving up from the ninth overall pick.
"Utah has been in contact with the Pistons about trading up from Nos. 9 and 16, according to league sources, with rival teams of the belief the Jazz are searching to get above Washington’s eighth pick in order to select Arkansas guard Anthony Black," Fischer reported.
Black is a fascinating prospect, though he is not one that makes the most sense for the Pacers. A more guard-needy team, like Utah or Washington, could be a better fit, and the Jazz reportedly have interest.
According to Fischer, the Jazz may try to trade for a pick in front of the Wizards, which may require a deal with Indiana. "Utah has also contacted Indiana about trading into the seventh selection, sources said. But the Jazz may need to trade above Orlando — or find a trade with the Magic at No. 6 — to secure a chance at Black," Fischer reported. He added that Collin Sexton has been made available by Utah.
The Pacers likely have little interest in Sexton, they have several ball handlers already. But if the blue and gold can still get a player they like at nine while also picking up another asset from Utah, perhaps the two team's could be trade partners.
Given the numbers of picks, player assets, and cap space the Pacers have, they could make several smart trades moving in any direction. Perhaps a move with Utah could be in the cards. The NBA Draft is in just over 24 hours.
