Rockets Coach Stephen Silas Remaining Positive Despite Growing Frustration

Houston Rockets coach Stephen Silas is remaining positive despite growing frustration due to mounting losses.

HOUSTON — The last 48 hours have not been kind to Houston Rockets coach Stephen Silas.

He watched from the sidelines after the Rockets' losing streak extended to six after falling to the Utah Jazz Thursday night. Houston's loss to the Jazz came a day after its 119-108 defeat to the New Orleans Pelicans, where Silas' night came to an early end after he received his second-career ejection.

Each game has expanded on the mounting frustration that has plagued Houston since its New Year's Eve defeat to the New York Knicks. But Silas believes that remaining positive is crucial when guiding the Rockets through their latest adversity.

"I am always going to be positive with this group," Silas said. "I understand the ins and outs of being the head coach of a rebuilding team. [Remaining positive] rubs off for our locker room and our fans. That's my motivation."

Houston is on the verge of another dreadful season where the team could finish with 20 or fewer wins for the third consecutive year — which would mark their worst stretch in franchise history.

Silas said he understands the ongoing frustration from players to the fans. And there are days when he shares the same sentiment.

But reaping the benefits of the team's struggles in the future helps Silas maintain his confidence through the roughest part of the Rockets' current rebuild.

"I am a positive person," Silas said. "It's hard right now. But this is going to be a fun thing once we get it all together."
