San Antonio Spurs' Devin Vassell Signs Big Money Contract Extension

San Antonio Spurs wing Devin Vassell has signed a five-year extension with the team.

San Antonio Spurs wing Devin Vassell is going to stay with the team for a long time.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Vassell and the Spurs have agreed to a five-year extension worth $146 million.

Vassell was drafted No. 11 overall by the Spurs in the first round of the 2020 NBA Draft out of Florida State. In three seasons for San Antonio, he has averaged 11.2 points per game, 3.7 rebounds per game and 1.9 assists per game while playing great defense.

He had a breakout season last year for the Spurs but it was hampered due to a knee injury that he suffered. He appeared in 38 games and finished his season averaging 18.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists along with 1.1 steals per game.

"Devin Vassell missed a couple of months with a knee injury, but the San Antonio Spurs were focused on the Victor Wembanyama lottery chase. Vassell is a talented scorer who could be a long-term piece for the Spurs," Bleacher Report writes. "The team has to start planning for a winning future now that it landed its prize in Wembanyama, but San Antonio has a lot of money to spend, and it's reasonable to think some of that goes to Vassell before the deadline."

Now, the Spurs have Vassell long term to pair alongside rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama. San Antonio and its new-look core will return to NBA action when the preseason begins, starting with a home matchup against the Miami Heat on Oct. 13 at 7 p.m.
