Suns PF Cam Johnson Has Surgery; Timetable for Return Unveiled

ESPN's Brian Windhorst reports Phoenix Suns PF Cam Johnson will only miss a couple months.

The Phoenix Suns haven't had great injury luck this season, and that was further exemplified when PF Cam Johnson left in the opening minutes of last Friday's loss to the Portland Trail Blazers with what was later revealed to be a torn meniscus.

Questions about which course of action Johnson would take and forming a potential timetable for his return emerged, and now we have our answer.

According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, Johnson had surgery to partially remove his meniscus this morning and will be out for one to two months.

This is great news for the Suns, who initially thought they may have lost Johnson for a good stretch of the season.

Thus far, the Suns are 1-1 without Johnson in the mix, although his exit after five minutes vs. Portland came with a loss as well. Devin Booker says now it's about finding what works and what doesn't.

"Its tough, you never want to see your teammate be hurt, it’s just a different dynamic. You have different looks and different flow, and we are continuing to figure that out," Booker said.

Torrey Craig has stepped up in place of Johnson, who impressed coach Monty Williams after a win on Saturday:

“Defensively, he made it very tough on Jerami (Grant) at times and then he had the energy and aware with all, to get back to a shifting position when Jerami didn’t have the ball," Williams said of Craig.

"I thought he was really good tonight and he’s just been a maniac attacking the glass this year and when he’s knocking down his three-point shot from the corner, it just adds to what he brings to the table every night.”

The Suns will plug Craig into the starting role most nights with Dario Saric also seeing an increase in minutes as well. Phoenix's bench was already answering questions about the depth they provide, and the absence of Johnson only pushes those questions further.

Phoenix will continue to battle until Johnson is ready for action once again, but the surgery and timetable for return is encouraging on both sides.
