Reports: Towns to undergo meniscus surgery, expected back 'early in playoffs'

Adrian Wojnarowski says Towns will be reevaluated in a month's time.

Karl-Anthony Towns will reportedly opt for surgery on his torn left meniscus, with the aim of returning to help the Timberwolves in the playoffs.

The breaking update came from from ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski shortly after the Wolves' pulsating 113-111 win over the Pacers in Indiana.

"Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns will undergo surgery to repair a torn left meniscus and will be reevaluated in a month," Wojnarowski said.

"It’s expected Towns will return by early in the Western Conference playoffs."

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Karl-Anthony Towns (32) goes to the basket past Orlando Magic center Wendell Carter Jr. (34) in the first quarter at Target Center in Minneapolis on Feb. 2, 2024.

The Wolves' regular season will end on April 14, and provided the Wolves don't require a play-in game, they will play their first playoff game on April 20 at the earliest.

That gives Towns a little over six weeks to recover before the start of the playoffs, though Wojnarowski's tweet suggests that Towns likely won't be ready for Game 1.

Towns has averaged 22.1 points and 8.3 rebounds while shooting 42.3% from 3-point range in 60 games this season.
