Rudy Gobert injury update for Victor Wembanyama matchup

The third meeting between the French superstars is Tuesday in Minneapolis

Did you know that Victor Wembanyama has more blocks in his last five games (28) than Rudy Gobert has in his last 15 games (26)? It's an impressive stat featuring two of the greatest French basketball players of all time and one that will be worth watching when they meet Tuesday night in Minneapolis.

The question however is if Gobert will be playing. The 7-foot-1 Timberwolves center missed Saturday's win over the Brooklyn Nets with a sprained ankle, and it doesn't sound like his status for Tuesday's matchup against the San Antonio Spurs will be known until closer to game time.

"He's good. He went through practice today so I'm sure he'll go through things tomorrow. Practice was pretty low key today but he looked good, feeling good," head coach Chris Finch said Monday.

Minnesota and San Antonio have split their two meetings this season, with the Spurs last coming out on top 113-112 on Jan. 27 in San Antonio.

Gobert had 19 points, seven rebounds and one block in the last meeting after posting 16 points, 20 rebounds and two blocks in the first matchup back on Dec. 6.

Wembanyama's two games against the Wolves produced these stat lines:

  • Dec. 6: 12 points, 10 rebounds, 1 block
  • Jan. 27: 23 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 blocks

Minnesota and the Spurs tip off Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. CT.
