After an initial trade attempt fell through the Washington Wizards and Boston Celtics found a new partner in the Memphis Grizzlies.

But that trade fell through and the Wizards and Celtics were sent back to the drawing board still trying to find a way to get Porzingis to Boston.

That's when the Memphis Grizzlies came in and saved the day.

In a three-team deal, Porzingis agreed to opt into his player option with the Washington Wizards and will head to the Celtics as planned.

Boston will also get pick No. 25 in Thursday's NBA Draft (from the Grizzlies) and a 2024 first-round pick via the Golden State Warriors that carries top-four protection.

Washington won't get pick No. 30 but will get No. 35 this year from Boston along with forwards Danilo Gallinari and Mike Muscala.

The Wizards are also receiving guard Tyus Jones from Memphis while the team that saved the deal will receive guard Marcus Smart from the Celtics as payment for doing so.
