We didn't have to wait long for the first trade of what figures to be a high-movement NFL Draft. With Eric Fisher and Luke Joeckel coming off the board at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, the Miami Dolphins opted to pounce on a No. 3 pick that the Oakland Raiders had been looking to deal. Oakland received the 12th and 42nd overall picks in return.
And with that pick, the Dolphins tossed a curve ball, passing on OT Lane Johnson to nab DE/OLB Dion Jordan.
Jordan is an absolute freak of an athlete at 6-foot-6, 248 pounds, and he'll bring a lot of speed to the Dolphins' defense. He's also capable of performing a number of tasks -- rushing the passer, dropping in a zone, diving in on run defense. The issue here is that Miami currently sits in a 4-3 base defense, and both Jordan and his former defensive coordinator at Oregon, Nick Aliotti, told Audibles that Jordan would be better off landing as an OLB in a 3-4.
Miami now may look to move pick No. 54 to Kansas City for Branden Albert, a deal that's reportedly been in the works for days. That apparently impending move might have convinced Miami that Johnson was less of a need than Jordan.
