Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam tells Johnny Manziel: 'This isn't Hollywood'

While fanfare in Cleveland is at a record high, Browns owner Jimmy Haslam doesn't want Johnny Manziel's head to swell any larger than its current state.

Speaking during a luncheon in Canton, Ohio, at the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Haslam stated that he already had a talk with the former Texas A&M quarterback and informed him that he needed to know his role.

"We were frank with [Manziel] on Friday that's the expectation, you're the backup quarterback," Haslam said. "This is a hard-working, blue-collar town, this isn't Hollywood. We want you to come in and go to work."

In addition to setting the ground rules, Haslam also stated that Manziel would not be automatically awarded the starting quarterback job, announcing that the job is Brian Hoyer's to lose and that Manziel would need to "act like a backup quarterback."

Certainly a little harsh given the excitement around the drafting of Manziel, though Haslam may feel that he needed to establish authority in regard to the quarterback given his celebrity-like persona.

Meanwhile, new teammates of Manziel were quick to praise the former Aggie, though they tempered expectations.

"I think good old Johnny Football is going to be a good addition to Cleveland," center Alex Mack said Monday. "Don't know who the starter is going to be, though."

For now, it'll be Hoyer. But his seat is already getting warm.
