Mitchell focusing on playing cleaner for Steelers

PITTSBURGH (AP) New Pittsburgh Steelers safety Mike Mitchell is eager to learn alongside star Troy Polamalu.

Pittsburgh signed the 26-year-old Mitchell in the offseason hoping he can make the kind of impact he did last season in Carolina. Mitchell intercepted four passes for the Panthers in 2013. The Steelers had just 10 interceptions as a team.

Mitchell said he plans to learn as much as he can from Polamalu, who will be playing alongside someone other than Ryan Clark for the first time since 2005.

The Steelers return to the practice field next Tuesday for the second week of organized team activities.
