The Detroit Lions released veteran cornerback Drayton Florence on Tuesday, the Detroit Free Press' Dave Birkett reports.

Florence, 33, signed with the team 12 days ago. He played last season for the Carolina Panthers and had 19 tackles and two interceptions. He previously played for the Lions in 2012.

During his 11-year career, Florence has played for the San Diego Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills, Lions and Panthers. He has career totals of 414 tackles, 20 interceptions and 104 passes defended.

The Lions play the Jaguars on Friday in the team's third preseason game. They open the regular season on Sept. 8 against the New York Giants.
