The Dallas Cowboys finished 8-8 in 2013 for the third straight season, missing the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season. Quarterback Tony Romo is returning from back surgery and will have a new play caller in former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan. Romo, 34, finished last season with 3,828 passing yards, 31 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Seven-time Pro Bowl defensive end DeMarcus Waresigned with the Denver Broncos in the offseason. Linebacker Sean Lee will miss the entire season after tearing his ACL during the offseason. The Cowboys finished last season last in the league in defense after allowing a team-record 6,645. Rod Marinelli replaces Monte Kiffin as defensive coordinator in Dallas.

Dallas passed on Johnny Manziel with the No. 16 pick in the draft and selected Notre Dame guard Zack Martin. The Cowboys signed linebacker Michael Sam to the practice squad on Wednesday.
