Washington Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo was limited in practice Thursday but will play in the season opener against the Houston Texans Sunday, he told reporters.

Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo was limited in practice Thursday but will play in Washington's season opener against the Texans Sunday, he told reporters.

Orakpo sprained his ankle in Washington's Aug. 23 preseason game against the Ravens.

A three-time Pro Bowler, Orakpo recorded 10 sacks last season and averaged 9.5 sacks per season in his first three years in the league. A torn pectoral muscle limited him to just two games in 2012. 

Washington's defense gave up the seventh-most yards per play in the NFL last season.
