The firsthand knowledge Vilma refers to is presumably related to Goodell's investigation into the New Orleans Saints bounty controversy. Vilma was suspended for one year as a part of the investigation, but had his punishment overturned on appeal.

Vilma played in only one game for the Saints last season due to injury. He was released in February and has not signed with another team.
