NFL owners explain Rice probe roles

NEW YORK (AP) The two NFL team owners overseeing the investigation of the league's pursuit and handling of evidence in the Ray Rice case say the findings will be made public.

Former FBI director Robert Mueller was hired Wednesday by the league after The Associated Press reported that a law enforcement officer said he sent an NFL executive a video in April showing Rice striking his then-fiancee in an elevator at a casino. Commissioner Roger Goodell has maintained no one in the NFL saw the video until this week.

New York Giants owner John Mara and Pittsburgh Steelers president Art Rooney say ''our role is not to conduct or direct the investigation but to support Mr. Mueller and assist him in gaining whatever access or resources he needs.''

The owners will report Mueller's conclusions to NFL owners and release them publicly.
