Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Mychal Kendricks has been ruled out for the team's game against the Washington Redskins on Sunday, the Eagles announced Friday.

Kendricks injured his calf in the third quarter of Philadelphia's game against the Indianapolis Colts on Monday night and did not return. He underwent an MRI and did not practice this week.

Either Casey Matthews or Emmanuel Acho will start at linebacker in Kendricks' absence.

Kendricks, 23, was the Eagles' second-round pick in the 2012 NFL draft. He was second on the team in tackles last season with 137 and is leading the team so far this season with 13.

The Eagles (2-0) are hosting Washington (1-1) in the first NFC East game for both teams.
