True or False? Trey Lance was Given "a lot of Chances" by the 49ers

Anytime there is some type of news or update on any quarterback, it puts all the players at the position under the microscope again.

Updates of Brock Purdy trending in the right direction to start Week 1 has caused another stir regarding 49ers quarterbacks.

Anytime there is some type of news or update on any quarterback, it puts all the players at the position under the microscope again. This time around it is Trey Lance. Albert Breer of The MMQB appeared on the Colin Cowherd show recently where he had an eyebrow raising comment in regards to Lance.

"I think if Brock Purdy were unable to take the first snap of training camp, and that's certainly a possibility—he's on a track to play Week 1, but they're still building the strength in his arm back up—I think Sam Donald might take the first snap of training camp. Now, it doesn't mean Trey Lance can't come back and work his way forward, but I think that they feel like they've already given this guy a lot of chances."

Excuse me? Lance was given "a lot of chances" where? Certainly not with the 49ers. His comment, which is probably an idea floated to him by sources within the 49ers, really makes this a "true or false" situation with Lance. Is it true that Lance was given so many chances and simply squandered them? No chance. That is complete and utter false.

The revisionist history is so strong when it comes to Lance. He barely got ONE opportunity, and when he did get his shot he sustained a season ending injury thanks to Kyle Shanahan treating him like a running back. I get why the 49ers are going with Brock Purdy as the starter. They associate a lot of their successful playoff run with him, but it doesn't have to come at the cost of degrading and spewing lies about Lance.

What makes me think Breer got the idea that Lance was given "a lot of chances" from his own talks with 49ers sources is because of what he ends up saying further in the interview with Cowherd.

"The kid (Lance) needs to play, and this is sort of the conundrum they're in. He just hasn't played a lot of football, period, since high school. He played one full year in college. The COVID year basically canceled his third year in college. He red-shirted as a freshman, and then he goes into the pros, and he's red-shirted his rookie year. So we're talking about, now, like a five-year period, if you include last year when he was hurt, where he's only really played one full season of football. So he needs to see snaps."

This is pretty laughable. He was given "a lot of chances," yet in the same breath he "hasn't played a lot of football" in the last five years? So, he really hasn't received "a lot of chances" then. This is really what shenanigans looks like with the 49ers. Training camp cannot arrive soon enough because there is a lot of comments being put out there with the 49ers quarterbacks that makes it one big game of true or false.
