Former Georgia Bulldogs Receiver Visits The Dawg Pound

Wide receiver prospect Ladd McConkey recently visited the Cleveland Browns prior to the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft. This news comes after McConkey visited with the Atlanta Falcons on Friday.

Former Georgia wide receiver Ladd McConkey visited the Atlanta Falcons on Friday and in a post on X from Ian Rapoport, he also unveiled that the Browns met with the receiver recently.

McConkey impressed at the Senior Bowl earlier this year, quickly elevating his draft stock. He was named top wide receiver for the American team, an award that is voted on by his defensive back teammates following the week of practices prior to the game.

The former Bulldog then carried that momentum into the combine, running an impressive 4.39 forty-yard dash. He also looked smooth as a route runner and flashed quality hands in the on-field drills. If McConkey was not on most scouts' board already, then this showing likely solidified that he was now getting significant consideration.

Not only is McConkey a precise route runner with an exceptional knack for creating separation, but he is also a willing blocker. This can be a rare trait when discussing a prototypical slot receiver. Not only could McConkey become a solid slot receiver in the NFL, but he could also serve as a team's punt returner.

Nov 11, 2023; Athens, Georgia, USA; Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Ladd McConkey (84) makes a catch.

McConkey is my 39th overall prospect and 11th ranked wide receiver in a loaded receiver class.

As McConkey's stock continues to soar, it is still important to note that he has limited production numbers in college compared to many other top receiver prospects. In 2022, he posted a career best 762 receiving yards on 58 receptions, also adding 7 receiving touchdowns. In an injury stricken 2023 season, McConkey caught 30 passes for 478 yards and 2 touchdowns.

If the Browns do select McConkey in the 2024 NFL Draft, the wide receiver room will become even more competitive. Elijah Moore, David Bell and McConkey would likely be battling for time in the slot. The hope would obviously be that the 2023 injury bug doesn't follow McConkey to the league.
