Former Mississippi State Bulldogs Cornerback Meets With Browns

The Cleveland Browns are scheduled to meet with former Mississippi State cornerback Decamerion Richardson as one of their final top-30 visits before the 2024 NFL Draft.

The current Cleveland Browns players have reported for voluntary offseason workout programs and the last of top-30 visits are wrapping up prior to the quickly approaching 2024 NFL Draft.

Former Mississippi State cornerback Decamerion Richardson is reportedly scheduled to meet with Cleveland prior to the conclusion of pre-draft visits on Wednesday.

Although Richardson does not rank inside of my top 30 cornerback prospects in this class, his speed and tackling ability turns some heads. The 6'2" and 188-pound cornerback ran a 4.34 forty-yard dash, recently. In 2023, he also had 79 tackles which graded out as a 90.3 tackle grade with PFF. That mark was good for highest amongst SEC corners last season.

Oct 22, 2022; Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA; Mississippi State Bulldogs defensive back Decamerion Richardson (3).

Richardson is a straight-line mover and can struggle with quickness, likely limiting him to the outside. He also needs to become more disciplined with his eyes because the longer he stares at the quarterback, the more ground he loses while tracking. Double moves can leave him playing significant catch-up. Finally, his mark of no interceptions leaves me with questions about his ball skills.

The physical traits are there for Richardson, but significant coaching will be needed in order for him to have a chance at playing time in the NFL.

Richardson may be a day three pick or could slide past all of the selections in the draft. If he is available as an undrafted free agent, then the Browns would need to jump on signing him immediately. Allowing Richardson an opportunity to develop on the practice squad behind Denzel Ward, MJ Emerson, Greg Newsome II, Cameron Mitchell, Justin Hardee and Kahlef Hailassie would be perfect.
