Chargers News: Jim Harbaugh Reacts to Landing HC Job With LA

The new head coach of the Chargers is "just getting started."

It seems fitting that Jim Harbaugh is making his return to the organization his playing career ended with after interviewing with multiple NFL teams. He has been returning home throughout his career.

Your Los Angeles Chargers announced the hiring of Harbaugh as their new head coach on Wednesday night. The former quarterback's playing days ended in 2000 after two seasons in San Diego.

"When I played for the Chargers, the Spanos family could not have been more gracious or more welcoming. Being back here feels like home, and it's great to see that those things haven't changed."

Harbaugh played collegiate for the Michigan Wolverines in the late 1980s and returned as the head coach in 2013. He led Michigan to an 86-25 record in his nine seasons and leaves Ann Arbor on top with a National Championship.

Harbaugh knows he has a tough task ahead of him. The Chargers were 0-7 in games decided by fewer than three points and the offense was decimated by injuries. The defense was ranked 28th, marking the third straight year being ranked 20th or lower.

"The only job you start at the top is digging a hole, so we know we've got to earn our way. Be better today than yesterday," Harbaugh said. "Be better tomorrow than today. My priorities are faith, family and football, and we are going to attack each with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind. This organization is putting in the work — investing capital, building infrastructure and doing everything within its power to win. Great effort equals great results, and we're just getting started."

Harbaugh and the Chargers have the No. 5 pick in the draft and are expected to be $27.5 million over the league salary cap.
