Chargers Defense Under Fire Following Tough Week 6 Defeat

The star-studded defense for the Bolts continues to disappoint...

The Chargers are 2-3 on the year after losing a close battle against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football.

The 20-17 final score was due to poor penalties on both sides, and the loss for the Chargers ended the short two-game winning streak they owned going into their Bye Week.

The biggest concern in this loss is the star-studded defense that saw Joey Bosa return for this Monday night matchup.

The Chargers' defense these last few years has been a thing of nightmares, injuries, underperforming, and lack of discipline that has marred this locker room every season since hiring Brandon Staley.

Already with a track record of committing penalties on third down the defense yet again gave a fresh set of downs to the Cowboys on their final drive that resulted in the field goal that would win them the game.

After getting a sack, the Cowboys faced a 3rd and 18 from their 17-yard line; Ja'Sir Taylor got an illegal contact call that rewards an automatic first down.

There was actually another illegal contact on that same play by Michael Davis, but the Cowboys chose Taylor's penalty.

With talent practically everywhere and efforts to bring more in, the Chargers still have not been able to set up an even average defense statistically and, even worse, consistently.

Star edge rusher Joey Bosa only played five games last year and has already missed a game this season due to a quad injury. Khalil Mack has looked good and been on the field, but he cannot carry the line by himself.

The Chargers brought in J.C. Jackson in hopes of him being a turnover machine that can play zone, and man; he was traded a little over a week ago after being benched.

The Chargers are now 2-3 and have a losing record, even with talent up and down the roster. Either the players need to show more discipline, or the coaching staff may need to change up their game preparation.
