The Los Angeles Chargers are heading into the 2023 season with high expectations. The team possesses a talented roster, but the question remains whether the coaching staff, led by head coach Brandon Staley, is up to the task. Staley will be entering his third year as head coach, yet he has yet to secure a playoff victory.

With as talented as the Chargers have been the past couple of years, that is unacceptable. A lot will ride on the Bolts this season, and insider Clark Dalton believes that could mean Staley's job if they fail to meet or exceed expectations.

Brandon Staley, head coach: Staley — a former assistant under Rams HC Sean McVay, a Super Bowl champion — fell short of expectations during his first two seasons. He went 19-15 but won no playoff games. Plus, the Chargers have lost four consecutive one-possession games to AFC West rival Kansas City under Staley.

While Staley isn't awful, he should accomplish more with a talented roster. Los Angeles had five Pro Bowlers in

2021

and three in

2022

. If the Chargers underperform again, the blame should fall on Staley, who could lose his job.

Although the Chargers' lack of playoff success cannot be solely attributed to Staley, the organization and fans are growing impatient. Over the past decade, the team has only made three postseason appearances, with only two playoff wins in five games.

It is no secret the Chargers will be under intense scrutiny this season as they aim to overcome their playoff woes. The team's talent and potential are evident, but it's the ability to deliver when it matters most that will determine their success. Staley will need to prove he can lead this group of guys into a deep playoff run. It won't be easy in a stacked AFC, but the Bolts have all they need to get over the hump.

The pressure is on, and all eyes will be on the team and Staley to deliver when it matters most.
