Chargers News: Adam Schefter Reveals LA Nearly Picked Fan-Favorite AFC Coach as New HC

This would have been L.A.'s second choice as head coach.

Jim Harbaugh is the new head man for your Los Angeles Chargers. It was not only the right hire but also a necessary hire to change the direction of the Bolts.

Although the Chargers interviewed a multitude of head coaches, Harbaugh was always number one on the list. However, what if things didn't go as planned, and Harbaugh either returned to college or took another NFL job?

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, he believes the Chargers would have vigorously pursued former Tennesee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel

Schefter appeared on ESPN's Pat McAfee Show and said why Vrabel would have been the guy.

"I believe that Vrabel would've been the guy in Los Angeles if Harbaugh didn't get the job," Schefter said.

Before Harbaugh to L.A. became official, Bookies.com had Vrabel with the sixth-best odds to become the next Chargers coach at +1000.

On top of that, Vrabel would have been a great coach to hire if Harbaugh had declined. He coached the Tennesse Titans for six seasons and was canned at the end of the 2023 season. His last two seasons were a bit rocky, but he restored glory to the Titans in the four seasons before 2022.

He finished with a 54-45 record and led the Titans to their first AFC title game in 2020 since 2003. Although it was his first gig as an NFL coach, he showed poise, was a leader of men, and did some great work with that organization.

He would have been a fine hire for the Bolts, but I'm sure Charger fans are happy with their guy Harbaugh.
