We’re counting down the days, Chargers fans. Five more days till the NFL Draft in Kansas City, and the rumors are swirling. The draft is a much-anticipated event by every team in the NFL, and that’s no different than with the LA Chargers.

The Chargers have seven picks in the 2023 draft, and they have many ways they can go about it. LA needs a handful of players, especially on the offensive end, so they will likely use it in one of their early picks. One of those positions they’ll target is tight end, and they’ll have plenty of prospects to choose from. One TE prospect that LA could select is Penn State’s, Brenton Strange. NFL columnist Matthew McDonald grades Strange’s game and lists him with the Chargers as one of the teams he’d fit best with.

He’s what McDonald had to say about Strange’s game.

Strange is best known for his strength and athleticism. This versatile tight end is effective both as a receiver and blocker. He would benefit from some technical work on his blocking, including training with hand technique, but his strength and quickness will make up for some inexperience. Strange has good speed running a 4.7 40-yard dash adding to his prowess as a route runner. He is not one of the elite names atop the position and, therefore could slip to teams pursuing a tight end later in the draft. If Strange slips in the draft, he could end up as an elite passer on an explosive offense and kickstart his career.

Teams With Need at Tight End: Dallas Cowboys, Las Vegas Raiders, Detroit Lions, Cincinnati Bengals, Los Angeles Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers

McDonald listed a handful of strengths for Stange's game, one of them being a great route runner. The Chargers will possibly need as many explosive offensive weapons as they can this season. There are many tight-end prospects in this year's class; LA will probably look for one in the middle rounds or so.
