Chargers News: Fans React To San Francisco's Decision To Hire Ex-LA HC Brandon Staley

They… don’t love it.

Brandon Staley is the San Francisco 49ers’ problem now.

Staley, your Los Angeles Chargers’ lackluster head coach from 2021-23, has been hired as the Niners’ assistant head coach.

Footbll fans on X/Twitter have weighed in, and let’s just say they are generally not pleased.

That could be grisly. Or maybe it’ll be great? He was an excellent defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams that one year.

Is the implication that Staley’s so bad in late game situations that the Niners made a bad hire OR is the suggestion that, bad as he is, Staley is still better than Shanahan’s San Francisco club, which essentially blew the Super Bowl late.

Fair. It’s quite remarkable that Staley has somehow found his way onto a Super Bowl finalist, especially as a close advisor to Kyle Shanahan.

An optimist!

It is a weird hire. The Niners got darn close. Maybe staying the course and making some roster tweaks was more the solution than making such drastic, wholesale coaching changes.

Yip.

Obviously, Chargers fans can’t wait. And who can blame them?

LA, meanwhile, has added a former 49ers Super Bowl head coach in bringing on former University of Michigan signal caller Jim Harbaugh. Their fourth quarters should look a lot better quite soon.
